Extension of Campaign Expenses - Form 6

If you need to extend your campaign period to eliminate a deficit, you must notify the City Clerk in writing by filing a completed the statutory Form 6: Notice of Extension of Campaign Period no later than Noon ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2010.

Please note that Municipal Building will be closed for the holiday closure commencing at Noon on December 24 until Tuesday, January 4, 2011.

Alternatively, due to the holiday closure you may file statutory Form 6: Notice of Extension of Campaign Period during regular business hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 4, 2011.

If the Form 6 has been filed and the campaign period is extended to eliminate a deficit, the candidate is still required to file the Form 4 on or before March 25, 2011 (2 p.m.). The end of the supplementary reporting period is June 30, 2011 and the final supplementary financial statement must be filed no later than 2:00 P.M. on SEPTEMBER 30, 2011.

Election Campaign Signs

Signs may not be erected prior to the close of nominations on local roads. Regional Road signs may not be posted until 12:01 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010. Signs on Steeles Avenue (north and south sides) are the jurisdiction of the City of Toronto and cannot be placed before October 4, 2010. Contact the City of Toronto for deposit fee information.

Filing Tips

  • You will meet with the City Clerk or Deputy City Clerk for 20-30 minutes to review information and sign the required forms.
  • For your convenience, call the City Clerk's Office, 905-832-8504, to set up an appointment with the City Clerk or Deputy Clerk to file your nomination paper. Appointments will help ensure that candidates are not kept waiting.
  • You become a candidate by filing a nomination paper in the City Clerk's Department, in person or by an agent. Transmissions by fax and e-mail, or mailed in nomination forms ARE NOT accepted.
  • If you choose to print forms from the links provided on the City's election website, please make sure to print the following on legal size paper:
    • The Nomination Paper;
    • Declaration of Qualifications; and
    • Freedom of Information Release and Website Link Agreement Form
    If you choose to complete the forms at the time you register, don't worry, you will have plenty of time to do that.
  • You must bring the following with you when you meet with the City Clerk or Deputy City Clerk:
    • the prescribed filing fee which must be paid in cash, certified cheque or money order payable to the City of Vaughan;
      • $200 if you wish to run for Mayor or;
      • $100 if you wish to run for Local and Regional Councillor, Ward Councillor or School Board Trustee; and
    • $5.00 fee for linking to your website (if any) from the City's election website;
    • photo-identification (such as a Driver's Licence), as you will be required to make a declaration of qualification before a Commissioner of Oaths in the Clerk's Office when filing your nomination paper.
